Flamingos

Brisbane Festival and West Village Presents

Flamingos
Flamingos

Witness the playful parade & take flight

World Premiere

By Dead Puppet Society

A flappy-footed flamboyance of full-size flamingos will take over Brisbane in this outrageous new outdoor performance from festival favourites, Dead Puppet Society.

These brightly-coloured, bendy-necked, leg-balancing birds are universally recognised as nature’s most ridiculous thing. Croquet club of choice and heroes of front lawn decor; these absurd animals can’t help but create a scene.

A sudden rush of light heralds their arrival, as the obnoxious hot pink flock explore their peculiar new environment, charming passersby with equal parts silliness and sincerity. With their bodies bobbing and feathers flapping to a disco dance beat, these unexpected visitors will be the undisputed life of the party.

Create Kinetic Wonders

Join Dead Puppet Society at their HQ for a special after-hours making workshop celebrating Australia’s winged wonders. In this special edition DPS Social, participants will discover the art of puppetry and create a unique mechanical curiosity.

Under the guidance of Dead Puppet Society’s Head of Fabrication Savannah Mojidi, participants will first observe their bird being cut out on the laser-cutter, seeing first-hand how our artisans incorporate laser-cutting technologies to build puppets and props, before assembling their feathered friend inside a dome case. Attendees will gain an insight into the basics principles of puppet design, and how to bring their bird to life on its miniature stage using a miniscule mechanism.
